Ausar Thompson is an American professional basketball player for the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was selected fifth overall by the Pistons in the 2023 NBA draft and is the twin brother of fellow NBA player Amen Thompson.
His career is notable due to his unconventional path to the league. Thompson bypassed his senior year of high school to join the Overtime Elite (OTE) development league, where he played for two seasons. During his time there, he won two consecutive league championships, was twice named Finals MVP, and earned the league MVP honor in 2023.
Recently, Thompson has been featured in sports news due to his status for an upcoming game. After dealing with an ankle injury, multiple reports confirmed he was medically cleared to return to play. While available for the game, it was noted that he would not be in the starting lineup for that particular contest.
